Ben Grosse has worked on dozens of hit records, produced stars (like Marlyn Manson) and owns a multi-room recording complex in Burbank, CA.
Andy Toth had a national hit as an artist and engineered a number 1 hit in 2010. Randy Nelsen co-owns a label that had a #1 comedy release, earned 3 gold records and sells 10,000 - 30,000 downloads a week
Rufus Harris has worked on hit releases as an engineer (Red Hot Chilli Peppers & George Clinton), Has his own studio and internet music company and is one of the most well-know Christian Music Artists in the Detroit area. These graduates "learned their stuff" at RID and then applied what they learned in the indistry. View partial list of artists and companis RID Grads have worked for over the years. |

Oct - Nov Article: GETING YOUR MIX TO THE PUBLIC |
Usually people putting out music spend the majority of their time mixing the tune. This is not only normal it is also very necessary for success. If you are going to have a hit record, people need to like it after they have heard it 100 times. If the mix has defects, people will notice it after a few plays and move on to another music release.
So you need to make sure everything is balanced, that you can hear everything and that everything sounds good. This will take time! Then you send it off to the mastering engineer.
Everyone knows that the mastering engineer will increase loudness. You want your release to be "competatively loud" or it sounds weak. You need loudness to keep all of the music above the road noise of the car or other noise present during playback.
But if you send your mix to an "average" mastering engineer there is a good chance that your mix will litterly be destroyed. It'll sound loud, but the loud vocals/instruments will get fuzzy and be nothing like you intended. All that hard work mixing will go down the toilet. You may not even notice because you are so impressed with the loudness, but if you listen to it enough you'll notice. The enginerer obtained the loudness with one of those maximizers (a.k.a. Ultramaximizer, Finalizer, etc.) and did little else.
The top producers. the ones that have gold and platinum on the wall, often send their mixes to a top mastering engineer who will actually perserve
your mix while increasing loudness. These engineers often use a
technique called "parallel processing." The basics are pretty easy to
understand, and practice will make perfect. This issue's technical article
is on Parallel Processing. Enjoy & Learn
