For over 25 years Recording Institute of Detroit has been a leader in music industry training.  The school is one of the oldest, yet one of the most modern in the industry.
The school offers five different programs in recording, production and marketing from a 3 week Pro Audio Specialist program that gives the student an overview of the recording process to an 12 month comprehensive program, the Recording Engineer Program.
One of the features of the school is its extensive self-generated text material making an understandable source of theory material written in English rather than "Engineeringese."  For both the 2002 - 2003 distance and campus students, the school has posted its theory content for study on the World Wide Web for a majority of its programs.  This Web study feature, available through Alexander MagazineTM allows an interactive study of course content that can reduce campus time for distance students as well as being an in-between-class study aid for campus students.
We have the most individualized practical training program of any school that we have surveyed.  Students complete practical session assignments in one of our four control rooms.  The facilities feature 24-64 track recording in the analog, digital MDM, and hard-disk formats.  The school also provides lab time for students where one or two students use facilities to get the individual hands-on exposure so necessary for learning.

Other schools call 6 students participating in assignments a "lab" (we would call this a "class") - our definition of a lab is one or two students working together - just like it really happens in the real world.  Our average teacher/student ratio is 1:10.

As you will see by studying this catalog, we have all the elements to train you in our four-studio complex through theory classes, interactive & Web  study, real sessions in real studios, individual hands-on practice and a ton of one-on-one personal assistance to get over any rough spot in your studies.
If you seriously want success in this tough and competitive field, you would be doing yourself a huge disservice if you didn’t thoroughly investigate our in-studio and distance programs.
Whether you are looking to get better home recordings, to be a professional recording engineer, to be a record producer, to market and sell your own music, or perform any of the many functions in the music and audio fields, Recording Institute Of Detroit is probably the right school for you.
