FROM THE EDITOR

As you know, we are about training in the recording and production arts.  This issue features both the new and the updated training postings that we have been working on since the beginning of "2K."

Recording Terms - What They Mean now has a Second Edition in its printed form.   Our assistant editor, Daniel Dennis, has also put the 2nd edition updates to the web version.  He also is starting a several week project of linking all available drawings & pictures to this Web dictionary.  Other updates include the new Associate Recording Engineer text.

In the spirit of the "Best" issue, we have reposted our tribute to Alexander Graham Bell that originally appeared in our first issue, January 1, 2000.

But the best in audio recording training starts with Alexander Magazine, the power source for the Recording Institute of Detroit's Online Services.  We're pleased to preview RID's upcoming Associate Recording Engineer Quikstudy program.

AUDIO TERMS - WHAT THE MEAN - SECOND EDITION

Assistant editor, Daniel Dennis has been busy updating the print master for ATWTM and has added definitions and terms to keep this valuable  reference up to date.

If you didn't know this, Yamaha Customer Service Department choose this as the most authoritative source for audio definitions and used (with permission) hundreds of our definitions in their customer service glossary.

ASSOCIATE RECORDING ENGINEER MANUAL

Compiled from individual essays but with added content, this manual gives all of the materials that Associate Recording Engineering student needs to study after Recording Techniques 1 study.  This is the text used in the RID Basic Music Production course.

Alexander readers will find material covered in other postings, but will find new material - and in the proper order for an organized study.  This PDF formatted file downloads in less than a minute with cable modem.   (still under construction on contents page until 9/4/01)

CYLOPEDIA ARTICLE

ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL - GRANDFATHER OF RECORDING

Our magazine and online training site is named after Alexander Graham Bell - The Grandfather Of Recording.  In this first issue article Bob explains why we call him gramps.

Note:  Bell Laboratories was renamed "ATT Laboratories" awhile ago and the pages where the links take you have been recently changed to "AT&T Labs."  When the referenced inventions were developed, it was "Bell Labs."

PRO TIP

SESSION PRIORITIES

Is the highest priority during the session the sound quality and awesome sounds that you get, or is it something else?  There's more to big dog recording than you may realize.

The Professional Tip Series is advice to recording engineers who are working in large studios with a budgeted national recording project.  You can expect a new tip each issuie of Alexander Magazine.

QUIKSTUDY

QUIKSTUDYTM CERTIFICATIONS

As soon as the technical and administrative bugs are ironed out, Alexander Magazine will begin delivering a series of Recording Institute's final examinations and placement tests via the web.   We are currently finishing details on this new service -
